Capturing rain water where it falls, harvesting it for reuse or allowing it to percolate through the soil to be cleaned and returned to our aquifers is a major component of healthier waterways, more sustainable communities and cost effective water management now and in the future.

To learn more about how green infrastructure can help mitigate today’s storm water crisis, attend mela:: The Roadshow, a new Conference this fall. MELA invites green professionals from all disciplines to attend this event, which will demonstrate how design, installation and maintenance can work together to make green infrastructure successful. mela:: The Roadshow on October 23

MELA’s new Green Infrastructure Roadshow opens with Keynote Debra Shore, Commissioner to the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRDGC), with a presentation that details the history and current situation of storm water management in Chicagoland and ends with her recommendations on working with the MWRDGC, the Illinois agency charged with managing water in most of Cook County. A breakout education session follows Ms. Shore, featuring Dennis Dreher, Geosyntech Consultants, who will provide technical knowledge behind best practices of sustainable stormwater management, including discussion of sustainable systems used successfully in specific case studies, along with the economics of stormwater management in progressive, sustainable communities.

The Roadshow also includes an expo and demonstrations that provide a closer look at new products and services that assist in the development and installation of green infrastructure projects.

Participants will walk away knowing more about how to achieve innovative efficiencies in managing stormwater in projects of all sizes, with information on how to comply with new ordinances that demand the use of green infrastructure best management practices. At the same time, they’ll know more about building systems which restore ecosystem services and preserve one of our most important natural resources … clean, fresh water.
