MELA Conference 2014: SITES™ SIMPLIFIED: Building a Sustainable Future
This year’s MELA Conference brings together some of the best talents and educators on the topic of Sustainable Landscapes, and specifically the SITES initiative. How is this initiative progressing? What’s new about it? How will it help drive demand for sustainable landscape practices, and your sustainable services? Learn this and more by attending.
SITES is the first national performance benchmark and rating system for the design, construction and maintenance of sustainable landscapes and it can serve as a valuable blueprint to best practice for all of us in the sustainable landscaping business.
Earn LA CES™ CEUs at MELA Conference 2014
New this year is the opportunity for Illinois landscape architects and civil engineers to earn up to six CEUs approved by LA CES, guaranteeing a high level of content and relevance.
Conference Keynote: Heather Venhaus
The Conference features a streamlined Agenda that eliminates the Vendor and Book Fairs to put emphasis on speakers and educational sessions and more time for networking and discussion. As both morning and afternoon Keynote, we have invited landscape architect Heather Venhaus of Regenerative Environmental Design in Austin to be our guide. Venhaus facilitated and led the development of SITES™ and is a contributing author to the Sustainable Sites Handbook. Her morning keynote will provide a behind the scenes look at the thought processes that built this initiative, with a simple and easy-to-understand overview. In the afternoon, Venhaus will discuss design, construction and maintenance practices and provide guidance integrating SITES principals into sustainable landscaping management practices.
Venhaus’ keynotes will provide the dialogue for two panel discussions: “Driving Sustainability in the Public Sector,” featuring policy makers from municipalities around Chicagoland; and “Driving Sustainability in the Private Sector,” with experienced professionals working with private land owners sitting on the panel. The Conference will further offer educational breakout sessions following two tracks; Sustainable Design and Sustainable Contracting, along with a segment on edible landscaping and urban farming to address its growing demand in sustainable landscapes.
